Do you know the difference between hearsay, media reports, DAP MP asks IGP

Even then, Khalid eagerly said Dr Ko's statement should be investigated under the Sedition Act."This is clearly different from the exclusive interview with Sirul Azhar Umar. That is not hearsay. That is the truth," added Lim.He lodged the report yesterday at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, after Malaysiakini published an interview with Sirul.Sirul said that he had acted under orders when he killed Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006.But Khalid said yesterday "mere allegations" were not sufficient for the police to conduct investigations."DAP's police report is based on hearsay reported in the media. Section 110(1)(b) further states that the police need not proceed or further proceed if there is no sufficient grounds. In fact it states the police shall not do so," Khalid told Malaysiakini.Lim said Khalid's swift dismissal of the police report was suspicious and wanted to know the IGP's motives. He also urged Khalid to write a letter to the Australian authorities to confirm that Sirul had been interviewed by Malaysiakini, so as to determine whether it was hearsay."If he is unable to do something so easy, I urge the Cabinet, especially Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to rebuke the IGP or demote him."I am sure many more are waiting their turn to become the IGP," said Lim.Sirul, who has been detained in Australia, said he was under orders to kill Altantuya, and that the "real" murderers were still free."I was under orders. The important people with motive are still free," he was reported to have told Malaysiakini in an interview.Sirul, 43, also said that his superior officer, then deputy superintendent Musa Safri, should have been called to give evidence in the Altantuya trial. At the time of the murder, Musa was also the aide-de-camp of Najib, who was then the deputy prime minister. The Court of Appeal in 2013 acquitted Sirul and Azilah saying there was serious misdirection by trial judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Yasin. The three-man appellate court said the failure to put Musa on the witness stand was important to the prosecution to unfold the narrative of its case.On January 13, a five-man Federal Court bench led by Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria sentenced the men to be hanged, overturning the Court of Appeal's decision. – February 20, 2015.
