Navy container ship carrying troops runs aground

Matej Kocak ran aground six miles off the coast of Okinawa, Japan on Thursday, 7th Fleet said.The Sgt. Matej Kocak, a Military Sealift Command ship led by a civilian crew, ran aground off the coast of Uruma at 11:30 a.m. local time and the Navy was working with Japan to free the 821-foot-long container ship, which is roughly the size of an amphibious assault ship."The U.S. Navy is working closely with Japanese authorities to assess the situation and determine the best course of action to refloat the vessel," 7th Fleet said in a news release Thursday. "Tugs are on scene stabilizing the vessel and assessing the situation. No leaks from the hull have been found and no damage to the surrounding area has been reported."7th Fleet said there are 38 civilian crew aboard, as well as 67 Army personnel and 26 Marines, adding: "None are injured and the crew is currently still on board the ship."Darren Wilson set to be cleared of federal chargesJan 22, 2015
