Freed on bail, cartoonist Zunar still under cops’ watch list


Satire cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, or Zunar, leaves the police station after being released on bail today. – Pic courtesy of Faszt Alin Adan, February 13, 2015.Police say they will continue to keep tabs on satire cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, or Zunar, who was freed on bail today after a three-day remand over a tweet deemed seditious.National news agency Bernama quoted Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Zainuddin Ahmad as saying that they would continue monitoring the cartoonist’s activities despite being released at 12.30pm today.Zunar, 52, was detained on Tuesday at Pantai Dalam, a residential area in Kuala Lumpur, after criticising the Federal Court's decision against opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Twitter.Police investigated him under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.The Federal Court on Tuesday dismissed Anwar's appeal against conviction for sodomising his personal aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at a condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26, 2008, and affirmed his five-year sentence.But despite the remand and multiple raids on his office, Zunar will launch a new book focusing on the Prime Minister’s wife."ROS in Kangkong Land" is a collection of Zunar’s cartoons of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.“The book will only be sold online as bookstores were under "huge pressure from the government," he said in a statement.It will be launched tomorrow at the Tasik Taman Jaya in Petaling Jaya at 10am. – February 13, 2015.
