D/FW Airport(Photo: WFAA)DALLAS – A prisoner being transported through the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport was shot Friday by an officer accompanying him after an altercation, an airport spokesman said. The officer and the prisoner got into a fight in a restroom near Gate 8 in Terminal C, and the prisoner was shot in the hand, spokesman David Magana said. The suspect, identified as Brent Taff, was trying to escape from officers while waiting for a connecting flight, according to a release from the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.Taff was being taken from Utah to Tulsa, Okla., and was escorted to the restroom by two Tulsa deputies, the release said.
Taff assaulted one officer in a restroom, and the officer shot Taff in the hand, the release said. The deputies had taken off the prisoner's handcuffs to allow him to go to the restroom.
Taff fled the restroom and ran from the secured departure area of the terminal to the public side before he was apprehended by the officers.
The officer, whose name is not being released during an investigation, was hit in the face multiple times during the altercation. Both he and the Taff were transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
No one else was injured.
Taff was being transported back to Oklahoma on an outstanding warrant for "threatening a violent act against a Tulsa County District Judge," according to the Sheriff's Office.
Magana said it is not unusual for prisoners to be transported through the airport's terminals, but couldn't say how frequently it occurs. The airport's operations were continuing as normal.Ford GT appears at Chicago Auto Show – in silverFeb 13, 2015
