"I don't even know if the autopsy will be done today."No other information about the investigation, whether foul play was suspected or why investigators were unable to locate the body during their search, was immediately available.Meza, 33, of Los Angeles was last seen alive on Jan. 8 and reported missing Jan. 9 when he missed a scheduled appointment.A divisional vice president for AIG Financial Distributors, Meza was in Palm Desert for a meeting. He was staying at the Courtyard Marriott Palm Desert hotel, and his wife, Diane Meza, suspected an Uber driver accidentally dropped him off 1.5 miles away at the Desert Springs resort.Investigators reported finding Meza's coat and wallet at the Desert Springs resort, where a 15-minute fireworks display was scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Jan. 8 as part of a private event. The Sheriff's Department brought in teams — including divers and bloodhounds — to search the resort's grounds, golf courses and ponds and surrounding neighborhoods. On Wednesday, when the Sheriff's Department reported it had completed its search to no avail, at least 50 family members and friends and others from as far away as Portland, Ore., gathered in Palm Desert to conduct their own search. They scoured the streets of the city, handing out fliers and following up on tips shared through social media. On Thursday, about 20 volunteers expanded that search into Thousand Palms.Family expressed hope Meza was still alive when the Sheriff's Department divers said they didn't find human remains during their search of the resort's ponds and lakes. At 2:15 p.m. Thursday, however, those hopes were dashed when sheriff's deputies were called to the Marriott after a body reportedly had been found in a pond on the resort's golf course. That evening, without giving any details, Meza's family posted on Facebook that he had died. They thanked all who had helped and offered support throughout the ordeal and asked for privacy. On Friday morning, the coroner's office confirmed that the body found in the pond was Meza.Meza has been with AIG for about 10 years and worked his way up from a desk job.Europe anti-terrorism raids lead to dozens of arrestsJan 16, 2015
